Dig Dig Digger is BGaming’s comedy take on the Egyptian book slot: a hapless digger, a voice performance by the CIS showman Vadim Galygin and hidden easter eggs on top of a familiar 5×3, 10-line structure. It launched in mid-2021 and was upgraded in October 2021 with a bonus buy that lets you choose how many expanding symbols you start with. The current official numbers are a 94.94% RTP and a 7,500x cap.
Key facts
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Release | June 2021 (launch press; BGaming later said May); BGaming’s page lists 16 July 2021 |
| Grid and lines | 5×3, 10 paylines |
| RTP | 94.94% (current); 95.5% quoted at launch |
| Volatility | Very high |
| Max win | 7,500x (current); 5,500x quoted at launch |
| Hit rate | 1 in 3.42 spins (about 29.24%) |
| Free spins rate | 1 in 173 spins |
Launch coverage in June 2021 quoted 95.5% and 5,500x, and SlotCatalog still shows those figures. BGaming’s page now lists 94.94% and 7,500x. The change may have come with the October 2021 update, but no source says so – check the info screen where you play.
The Golden Shovel and free spins
- The Golden Shovel is both scatter and wild.
- Three or more shovels award 10 free spins. One regular symbol is picked at random as the expanding symbol.
- When enough of that symbol land, they expand to cover their reels and pay on all lines, even on non-adjacent reels.
- Three or more shovels during free spins retrigger the round – BGaming states the number of retriggers is unlimited.
The structure is the one popularised by Book of Dead, so the outcome of a round depends heavily on which symbol becomes the expander.
The buy: choose 1 to 9 expanders
The October 2021 update added a buy that starts free spins with a set number of expanding symbols – from 1 to 9, according to the update’s press coverage. BGaming shows the price on the button and doesn’t publish a table. The same update added Chance x2, which raises the bet for more bonus chances and can’t be combined with a buy. BGaming’s Katherine Puteiko said at the time: “it’s always a good idea to give players the opportunity to choose extra bonuses.”
Choosing several expanders makes each free spin more likely to pay across the screen, but a nine-expander buy is an expensive single decision. Our bonus buys guide covers how to think about that.
Gamble
Launch coverage and databases list a card gamble (colour x2, suit x4). BGaming’s current page doesn’t mention it, so we can’t confirm it is in the current version.
The sequel
In June 2022 BGaming followed up with The Big Atlantis Frenzy, a sequel to the comedy slot with a choice of 5×3, 5×4 or 5×5 grids.
For BGaming book slots with a higher RTP, see Book of Cats at 96.99%.

Poor fit: RTP-conscious players; 94.94% is low for a modern slot.[/wpremark]
Verdict
Dig Dig Digger is a book slot with personality and one standout option: a buy that lets you pick how many expanders start the round. Unlimited retriggers add upside. The weak point is the current 94.94% RTP, and the change from the launch figures isn’t explained – worth knowing before choosing it over BGaming’s higher-RTP book games.
