Book of Cats Megaways is BGaming’s Megaways remake of its 2020 book slot, released on 3 November 2022. It keeps the Egyptian cats and the expanding symbol, drops the sixth cell of the original Book of Cats, and adds three things: up to 117,649 ways, wild multipliers in free spins and a buy that guarantees a premium expanding symbol. The RTP rises to 97.07% and the cap to 10,000x.

Megaways in short
Each of the six reels shows between two and seven symbols per spin, so the number of ways changes every spin, up to 7 × 7 × 7 × 7 × 7 × 7 = 117,649. The book appears on reels 2 to 6, works as wild and scatter, and pays as a scatter wherever it lands. The general mechanics are explained in our Megaways guide.
Free spins: expanding symbol plus wild multipliers
- Three or more books award 12 free spins; three more during the round add 12.
- One regular symbol is picked at random to be the expanding symbol. When it forms a win it expands to fill its reel and pays even on non-adjacent reels.
- Books landing in free spins carry a random x2, x3, x5 or x10 multiplier on the spin’s total win. Several on one spin are added together: x5 and x10 give x15.
That last step is the main difference from the original, where free spins have no multipliers at all. The cap is higher too: 10,000x against 8,202x.
Two buys and Chance x2
| Option | What it does | Price* |
|---|---|---|
| Free Spins | Regular round, random expanding symbol | 100x |
| Premium Free Spins | Expanding symbol guaranteed to be a high-paying symbol | 150x |
| Chance x2 | More scatters for a higher bet | +50% per spin |
*Prices and the Chance x2 cost come from SlotCatalog; BGaming describes Chance x2 only as “slightly increases the bet” and shows buy prices on the buttons. Buys and Chance x2 can’t be combined. SlotCatalog also notes a lower RTP with these options, which BGaming doesn’t confirm.
How it compares
Against the 5×3 original it trades predictability for range: you no longer see the expanding symbol in advance, but every free spin can carry multipliers. Against Book of Dead, the reference for the genre, it offers a higher RTP and a higher cap, at the cost of much more complex reels.

Poor fit: players who liked seeing the expanding symbol in advance in the original.[/wpremark]
Verdict
A strong Megaways remake: the RTP is high, the multipliers give free spins real upside, and the premium buy lets buyers skip the risk of a low expanding symbol. The very high volatility and a bonus about once in 189 spins mean it’s a game for patient bankrolls. If you prefer the simpler original, its 96.99% RTP is almost the same.
